I am fundraising for a friend Heather ❣️

She is a young mid 50yr old who has recently been diagnosed with a rare Gallbladder Bile Duct Cancer. 

Her daughter and I lived together back in our late 20’s for a few years, and this is when I got to know Heather more, and what a wonderful woman she is. 

Heather has a loving partner, and they returned from a mega overseas holiday late last year. It was at this time in November ‘23 that investigation was carried out following some lower abdominal pain and back pain. Tests showed that the expected gallstones were in fact the rare cancer.

Since the diagnosis Heather commenced Chemo to reduce the size of the cancer and with the hope to prolong life. 

Heather booked a family holiday to the Gold Coast for this April with her partner, her daughter, her daughter’s husband and her two grandchildren. This will be a time to make epic memories visiting all the theme parks and to spend quality time together. 


The Kosi Challenge is an annual event hosted by Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Australians diagnosed with a rare, less common or complex cancer each year.

In March 2024, I will be climbing 2,228 metres above sea level to reach Australia’s highest point to help RCA.

One hundred per cent of funds raised through the Kosi Challenge goes towards the important work of RCA's Patient Support Team.

From helping patients to access specialists and treatments, through to delivering support groups, connecting people with services and providing financial assistance particularly in times of crisis, Patient Support is at the heart of what RCA does.

RCA is a Federal Government-classified Health Promotion Charity. All donations over AU $2 are fully tax deductible.

Fundraising Event Success

On Sunday a group of amazing women and myself came together as a community to raise awareness and support for Rare Cancers Australia.

It was a great way to raise funds and have a great walk together.

My legs and body are feeling strong and ready for the challenge of Mt Kosi on 16th March, less than 3wk’s away.

Fundraising Event - Sunday 25th 6:30am - 10km walk

Hello everyone, 

Today marks 3wk’s until my ‘climb for a cause’.

I am so grateful for everyone’s generosity supporting such a worthy cause.

I have set up a fundraising event for this Sunday 25th Feb, a 10km walk loop from Mends St Jetty in South Perth, over to the city side and back around. 

If 10km’s is to much for you, you can do 6.5km’s, when we reach Elizabeth Quay you can hop on a transperth ferry back across to South Perth. 

Spread the word and let’s come together to show our ‘Generosity in Action’.

Variety with my training… prep is going well

I was gifted a top from Heather and I am humbled to wear it when I am training. It is raising so much awareness in the form of conversations with people and aiding my fundraising. 

Training for this climb consists of a lot of different activity - stair climbs, long walks, resistance training and also keeping up with preventative maintenance (massage, chiro, yoga).

I was recently is n Melbourne for a work conference and enjoyed walks along the Yarra. I have also gotten back to a love of mine - Kokoda Track in Kings Park - Perth, and keeping up my Pilates reformer classes all helping me build the stamina for the climb.

Just a little update while away in Melb for a work conference.

I was gifted a T-Shirt from Heather, who I am dedicating my walk to.

Rare Cancers suck and we all need to dig deep and support those who face a diagnosis of any of these diseases:

  • Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs)
  • Ocular (uveal) melanoma.
  • Penile cancer.
  • Small bowel cancer.
  • Soft tissue sarcoma.
  • Upper tract urothelial cancer

Training and Fundraising Update

Hello all, 

A post to show my appreciation and gratitude to my climb sponsors. I am so blessed to have so many caring and generous people as family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

Your donation is helping 52,000 Australians each year that are faced with a Rare Cancers diagnosis. 

I am training hard for my climb and dedicate my every step to Heather and all the other patients out there journeying their path.

I set out to raise $1,000 and have since set 3 stretch targets - $1,500, $2,000 and today have increased it to $2,500.

Climbing for a cause: The Journey to the Summit of Mount Kosciuszko

Hello! I'm embarking on an inspiring journey, climbing Mount Kosciuszko with my work colleagues to raise funds for cancer research and support. As a melanoma survivor, and with my dad having bravely battled bowel cancer, the impact of this disease on our family has been profound. This experience has made me acutely aware of the challenges faced by those dealing with rare cancers. The journey they undertake is incredibly tough, not just physically but emotionally too, impacting both the individuals and their loved ones.

We are climbing Mount Kosciuszko not just as a physical challenge, but as a symbol of the uphill battle faced by cancer patients. Our mission is to raise awareness and funds to support those in their fight against this relentless disease. Every step we take upwards symbolises the journey cancer patients undertake every day. 

We believe that no one should face this journey alone. The support, care, and research funded by your donations can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will help provide essential support to individuals and families battling cancer.

Join us in this endeavour to climb not only a mountain but also to overcome the challenges faced by those impacted by cancer. Together, we can make a difference!
