I am fundraising for those, like me, diagnosed, being treated for and living with Sarcoma.

In November of 2020, a persistant sore muscle in my leg led to a diagnosis of Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Sarcoma; I was told I had cancer.  

It's a rare cancer (less than 1% of adult cancers) and in my case was an 11cm tumour in my right calf. True to form, I named it 'Donald' (as in Donald Lump, vile and unwelcome). I had 28 rounds of radiation and in February of 2021, major surgery on my right calf with a reconstruction from my left thigh.
Unfortunately, routine follow up scans in September of 2021 found that it had spread into multiple "lesions" (aka small tumours) around my body as well as an aggressive 6cm tumour in my upper back. Naturally, this became known as 'Donald Jnr'. Another 15 rounds of radiation, surgery in December 2021 and plans for chemotherapy to control the remaining lesions followed. With amazing good fortune, a genetic mutation was found in my tumours which made me eligible for a trial drug instead of chemo and that began in February through the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre here in Melbourne. Despite an ongoing battle with side effects, results so far have been "ridiculously good" and things are looking positive.
I have at various times been angry, sad, upbeat, depressed, frustrated, positive, exhausted, hilarious and terrified. And it's a daily prospect. For now, I am relatively well and living life far closer to normal than I thought I would be.
It has always been exceptionally important to me to do what I can to give back to others and this time around, it's personal.

The Kosi Challenge is an annual event hosted by Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Australians diagnosed with a rare, less common or complex cancer each year.

In March 2024, I will be climbing 2,228 metres above sea level to reach Australia’s highest point to help RCA.

One hundred per cent of funds raised through the Kosi Challenge goes towards the important work of RCA's Patient Support Team.

From helping patients to access specialists and treatments, through to delivering support groups, connecting people with services and providing financial assistance particularly in times of crisis, Patient Support is at the heart of what RCA does.

RCA is a Federal Government-classified Health Promotion Charity. All donations over AU $2 are fully tax deductible.
