In honour of Matt Lees
The Kosi Challenge is the single signature fundraiser for Rare Cancers Australia (RCA), with the sole purpose of raising awareness and much needed funds for people across Australia impacted by rare and less common cancers.
In March 2026, I'll be climbing with hundreds of others, in support of Rare Cancers Australia, in memory of Matt, and all those living with, and caring for, someone impacted by cancer – together we are a community and Kosi unites us all!
Rare Cancers Australia came into our lives at just the right time. Providing a glimmer of hope on some of our darkest days. We will be forever grateful for the work that they do and the "no questions asked" care, they provide. Climbing Kosi is a way to say thank you to a much needed foundation, and to provide a little hope for others, who are dealt a similarly cruel hand.
Matt was 46 when he lost his courageous, 2 and a half year battle with a Glioblastoma (high grade Brain Cancer). He was a loving Husband, Dad, Son, Cousin, Brother-in-Law and Friend, to many. He loved his life, and the people around him. Matt adored all things NRL and the St.George Dragons, NBA and LeBron James, Ford Racing and his TX3s and a craft beer, or two.
I have created the team "Greying MATTers" in honour of Matt and his brave fight. This name has a whole lot of meaning behind it (puns intended), but mostly, I want to ensure that through fundraising efforts and support of incredible foundations, others get the chance to grow old and grey. Something Matt didn't get to do.
Please join me by walking/fundraising. Together, we can turn our grief into hope and make a tangible difference in Matt's name. You don't need to be an elite athlete or a professional fundraiser - you just need to have a heart that loved him.
All funds raised through the Kosi Challenge go directly towards funding the individualised, 360 degree person centred support that RCA’s team of specialist cancer navigators provide for patients, carers and their families.
